Prison Island (Changuu)

A short boat ride from Stone Town, this island is home to giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 150 years old. The island was once used as a prison for rebellious slaves and later as a quarantine station. Today, it’s a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can walk among the tortoises, snorkel in clear waters, and explore its rich history.
